This thread is by no means a place where you will be asking for help. The only reason it is left open for replies is because if players have suggestions as to how to improve this FAQ or they think something should be added to it, they should post those ideas here. Any post which will be asking for help about how to fix this or that problem will, most likely, be ignored and deleted. Therefor, if you have a problem then make your own topic with your own issue and we will try to help you there. I hope I'm clear on this.

Introduction~
... hmmm, since I'm not good at doing introductions and I don't really like to read and write a lot, I'll try to be short. The purpose of this FAQ is to group all of those most common issues that players usually encounter during process of setting up the game or while playing the game, organize these problems, and provide answers for them in one localized and centralized manner =)

1. Guides for General Solutions
This section is a list of useful guides made by forum member for general solutions, Computer tips, and troubleshooting.


Running ToP On Mac:
Play on a Mac, matey! - by spaker22 (added on Oct 13th)

Where is Insert? : Try the following: Fn+M, Shift + 0(zero on numberpad); on laptops, Fn+NumLock [light should glow] and then Shift+M.

2. After I click Enter Game my game doesn't start/Loading screen disappears or does nothing
2.1 The game doesn't start and there is no Game.exe in Task Manager -> Processes list (Loading screen disappears)
You may need to update your graphic card's drivers and Direct X. If you don't know how to do that, then please refer to the following thread.

You may need to lower your screen resolution to 16 bit or change Screen Size [exp: 1024x768]

2.2 The game doesn't start and I have Game.exe in Task Manager -> Processes list (loading screen stay and does nothing)
In this case I would recommend you to wait about 5 to 10 minutes and see if the game starts up. If the game doesn't start up, then End Process and start the client again. Also, it is advisable to turn off such things like MSN, Skype, uTorrent, etc. which you might have running in background of your computer and which you don't need.
Check your Task Manager for unfamiliar processes and Scan for Viruses, there are a number of bugs that may keep a resource hog game from opening properly


3. Game textures are missing/screwed up/flawed

4. I don't know how to download by using Torrents.

5. I get a message saying that A File is Corrupted during installation
All you have to do is just re-download the client, preferably from different source, and install the game from that copy. If you are using an http source, it is also recommended that you use a download manager like GetRight.


6. My game keeps on freezing while I enter/exit the city
This is an issue of lag causing the music loader misload/crash:
Use CTR+B(turns off avatars) when in crowded areas like Argent/Abandon Mine/ changing regions (new region = new music)Reduce your screen resolution to 16 bit. Reduce memory usage as much as possible; dont run other programs, de-frag your HD (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmentor), etc.If all else fails; Go to Tales Of Pirates Online\music folder and either move, rename, or delete the music files there


7. My game lags while I am in a city or just in general
First of all press alt+o and go to Video Settings. There try to turn them off one by one until the lag decreases or goes away. Also, if there are a lot of players around (like in cities) press Ctrl+B in order to hide character models. In addition, you might want to disable thins like MSN, Skype, uTorrent, etc. in order to free up the processor


8. Whenever I start ToP I get Autopatch has been activated and nothing else happens
  • There are two possible fixes for this. First, one is to right click the launcher and then Run as Administrator (in XP machine it will be simply Run as..., u will have to chose the administrative account manually).
  • Also, if you do not want to frequently select Run as Administrator every time you wish to play, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click the Tales of Pirates Online icon on your desktop
    2. Select Properties
    3. Go to the Compatibility tab
    4. Go down to Privilege Level and check Run the program as an administrator
  • Second fix, try to uninstall the game completely, delete the folder that stays behind, and the install the game onto a different drive (other than C).


9. I have issues with the font in the game


10. I try to enter game and I keep getting Download Timed-Out error while patching
This error is most likely caused by a firewall. The most advised method is to open following ports TCP: 1983 and TCP: 21. Also, if you are behind router, make sure you open those ports on it too. However, if that doesn't help then try to disable or uninstall your firewall (I prefer uninstall since certain components remain active even in disable state) In addition, sometimes anti-viruses like McAfee or AVGFree might be preventing you from accessing the game. It is a good idea to try to uninstall those and see if you can enter game without them.


11. I keep getting this annoying beeping sound

12. Bad Allocation
  • This is generally a memory or HD issue.
  • De-frag your disc drive and try not to run any other programs while on ToP.
  • How to de-frad Disc:
  • Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmentor
  • Do full computer Virus Scan
  • Close all other programs before playing
  • Make sure your gfx card and DirectX Drivers are up to date.
  • Make sure to Restart computer after defrag/driverupdate
  • This error can also be caused by the 'Camera Tweak' - remove it.
